Moving Beyond Militarism: Nobel Women’s Initiative Releases 2013 Belfast Report

Events, Notices, Training
Over 100 individuals from more than twenty countries gathered in Belfast, Northern Ireland in May 2013 to hold a dialogue about women’s role in moving beyond militarism. The Nobel Women’s Initiative is pleased to announce the publication of our report from that conference, Moving Beyond Militarism: Women-Driven Solutions for a Nonviolent World. Six Nobel Peace Laureates were joined by more than 80 influential activists, academics and decision-makers from across the globe whose work focuses on ending militarism and war with nonviolent strategies for peace. Military budgets have increased over the past 20 years. Armed battles killed over 37 000 people worldwide which is more than four deaths every hour. This also means investments in health, education, environmental protection and other areas are neglected. Hyper-militarization has consequences on peace processes all…

SAY NO TO WAR AND MEDIA PROPAGANDA NO TO US/NATO AND YES TO PEACE

Notices, Press Releases
WHILE US/UK/NATO IS PUSHING FOR WAR WITH RUSSIA, IT BEHOVES PEOPLE AND THEIR GOVERNMENTS, AROUND THE WORLD TO TAKE A CLEAR STAND FOR PEACE AND AGAINST VIOLENCE AND WAR, NO MATTER WHERE IT COMES FROM. WE ARE AT A DANGEROUS POINT IN OUR HISTORY OF THE HUMAN FAMILY AND IT WOULD BE THE GREATEST OF TRAGEDIES FOR OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN IF WE SIMPLY ALLOWED THE WAR PROFITEERS TO TAKE US INTO A THIRD WORLD WAR, RESULTING IN THE DEATH OF UNTOLD MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. NATO’S DECISION IN WALES IN SEPTEMBER, TO CREATE A NEW 4,000 STRONG RAPID REACTION FORCE FOR INITIAL DEPLOYMENT IN THE BALTICS IS A DANGEROUS PATH FOR US ALL TO BE FORCED DOWN, AND COULD WELL LEAD TO A THIRD WORLD WAR IF NOT STOPPED. WHAT…

World Beyond War Event

Events
World Beyond War held an event in Washington, D.C., this past Saturday night. We showed a video, had speakers talk, and took questions from the audience. Such an event is very easy to produce. World Beyond War has great speakers all over the place, and can provide videos, prezis, powerpoints, talking points, and prizes for those who attend and make donations. Events like this one spread the word, educate, and move people toward action. They can also fund World Beyond War's larger efforts toward those same ends. At Saturday's event, we suggested a $15 donation but turned no one away. We offered buttons, scarves, and books to those making donations. We raised $985. Most people cannot donate $985, but most people can organize an event that raises it. And we'd…

Mairead Maguire Speaking At The 100th Anniversary Of International Fellowship Of Reconciliation In Konstanz, Germany 1st – 3rd August 2014

Events
Dear Friends, I would like to offer my congratulations to IFOR on this its 100th anniversary. I once asked Fr. Dan Berrigan, the great American Anti-war activist, for some advice to me in my life as a peace activist. He replied ‘Pray and Resist’. The IFOR members will appreciate this advice, coming as they do from their roots in 100 years of building International Fellowship and Reconciliation between peoples of all faith traditions, (and none) many of whom believe in the need for prayer in order to strengthen their spiritual lives, and many take their prayer, very seriously. Our Muslim brothers and sisters show us great example by their very beautiful lives of prayer, (5 times a day), and Fasting at Ramadan. But I would like to ask how serious…
