Pope Francis‘ two-day visit to Ireland on the 25th and 26th of August 2018 comes at a time when people need hope. The Irish Church has been devastated by the abuse scandals, which have never been properly dealt with. The victims and survivors of church abuse have told their stories and knocked on doors trying to get a hearing, and meet those who would listen to the terrible injustices perpetrated on them by some Catholic clergy and religious institutions. It is only in the last few years that it has been recognized by the Catholic hierarchy that clerical abuse has taken place. Myanmar must take responsibility for Rohingya genocide, Nobel laureates speak out

Nobel peace laureates Mairead Maguire, Tawakkol Karman and Shirin Ebadi, met with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today in Dhaka. They thanked her for all the work Bangladesh has done to shelter over one million Rohingya refugees. As a part of our Standing with #RohingyaWomen: Nobel Women Delegation 2018, the three laureates visited refugee camps near Cox's Bazar earlier this week. Nobel Women Delegation 2018, held a press conference today in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Nobel peace laureates Tawakkol Karman, Shirin Ebadi and Mairead Maguire, addressed what they have heard and witnessed during their visit to Rohingya refugee camps near Cox's Bazar and the no man's land between the Bangladeshi and Burmese border. They called for an immediate end to the Rohingya genocide in Burma, and for sister laureate, Aung San Suu Kyi, to put an end to the persecution of the Rohingya people or face prosecution herself at the International Criminal Court. Dear President and Members of the Security Council, As you are aware, a human tragedy amounting to ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity is unfolding in Myanmar. Over the past two months, a military offensive by the Myanmar Army in Rakhine State has led to the killing of hundreds of Rohingya people. Over 30,000 people have been displaced. Houses have been burned, women raped, many civilians arbitrarily arrested, and children killed. Crucially, access for humanitarian aid organisations has been almost completely denied, creating an appalling humanitarian crisis in an area already extremely poor. Thousands have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh, only to be sent back. Some international experts have warned of the potential for genocide.
