The Peace PeopleThe Peace People have supported Mordechai Vanunu for many years and have been strong advocates for his release during his seventeen and a half years in Israel.
Mairead Corrigan Maguire has twice nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Five of our members travelled to Israel last April (2004) to vigil at Ashkelon prison with an international delegation on the days surrounding his release. We also visited him in his new home in Jerusalem, St George's Anglican Hostel, where he has received sanctuary.
Because of unbearable restrictions put on his liberty as conditions of release by the Israeli Government, Vanunu has now been indicted again with the offence of speaking to foreign journalists and attempting to visit Bethlehem on Christmas Eve 2004 and appears in court on April 12. He is again in danger of imprisonment for these "offences".
The Peace People are calling on Israel to release him without conditions, give him a passport and allow him to leave Israel.
