Promoting an ancient vision for a nonviolent future

Peace People - Projects 2001 +

July, 2001.

The Peace People organisation is undergoing a major strategy review and restructuring. After twenty-five years of work we feel that the time is appropriate to consider new ways in which we might pursue our objectives and best serve the community. We are embarking on new projects in three areas -

Some time ago you indicated a willingness to assist us if you could and we would like to suggest three possible ways of helping us at this time.

Firstly, let us know if you would be interested in helping with any of the above. We anticipate a preliminary meeting for volunteers in each of these projects in September/October of this year.

Secondly, you might respond to this invitation by giving us your views, in writing, on some or all of the following aspects of the Peace People organisation:

Thirdly, we are anxious to ensure a constant presence in the office at Fredheim during the working week, and to this end we are looking for a number of volunteers who could give half-a-day (or more) of their time each week on a regular basis.

The main responsibility would be to be there (9 - 1.30 or 12.30 - 5), to be a member of our core team, to take and record telephone messages, and to provide a personal welcome to anyone who might call at Peace House. We hope to have this in place by 3rd September. We would be particularly keen to encourage the use of individual interests and abilities while volunteers are with us, such as secretarial or computer skills, office management, membership secretary, investigating possible areas of funding, fund applications, developing a bank of resource materials, etc., etc. Volunteers would receive expenses of £8 per half-day, towards travel and sustenance.

If you feel you might be able to help in any of these, please contact Mairead Corrigan Maguire or myself.

Yours sincerely,

Gerry Miller
(Honorary Secretary)
