As part of our ongoing commitment to this decade, the Peace People, initiated the following project -
The New Releases launch took place on 24th October, 2002 (United Nations Day).
The aim of this project was to combine a range of events that would build together to promote greater awareness of UN Resolution 53/25 declaring the decade of 2001-2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World.
A schools pack as an aid to teachers was distributed to schools throughout Northern Ireland and the Republic.
The project's aim: to generate through the insight, and experiences of young people of fresh creative ideas, thinking and visioning to help greater learning and understanding of the benefits that come from a culture where peace and nonviolence are the norm.
The material returned from many young people was judged and exhibited and in June the winners of the project were announced at a celebration in Belfast's Waterfront Hall.
The winners of the competition and their teachers travelled to New York to attend a United Nations Conference on Human Rights and Peace on 5th December, 2003.
