Justice Not Terror Coalition


The Peace People actively supported the ‘Global Call to Action’ U.S. led worldwide campaign of nonviolent civil resistance to end the US led occupation of Iraq. (www.globalcalliraq.org)

The Peace People joined with other groups, Pax Christi, INNATE, Green Action and others, to form the Justice Not Terror Coalition (JNTC) to take part in the following actions

a)  20th March, 11am-4pm– the 3rd anniversary of the US occupation of Iraq.
.The JNTC performed a ‘die-in’ and blocked the entrance to the U.S.Consulate offices in Belfast. The offices were effectively closed down for several hours. Letter of protest given to the US Consul.

b)   Wed 5th April, 7.30pm, Milan Rai well known peace activist and author gave a talk in Peace House about his personal experiences in Iraq and his latest book,
‘7/7: The London Bombings, Islam, and the Iraq War’

c) 27th April, 8.30am-10am, the JNTC performed a ‘die-in’ and blockade outside the main entrance of Thales Air Defence, Alanbrooke Road, Castlereagh, Belfast. Thales has also a subsidiary factory at Drumaness, Co Down. They are engaged in the manufacture of Starstreak missiles. JNTC were highlighting the war profiteers who are fuelling violence and war throughout the world. They also wrote to Invest N. Ireland expressing disgust that money was allocated to this factory

d)July 7th 12.30pm- 2pm, Anniversary of the London Bombings – JNTC leafleting outside Tesco’s, Belfast Royal Avenue to draw attention to the Government’s cover-up in this tragedy, and failure to link it to Britain’s participation in the war in Iraq.

e) Sunday 16th July, 7.30pm  Talk in Peace House by Kathy Kelly, Voices for Creative Nonviolence, and Jimmy Massey, ex- US marine, who served in Iraq during the 2003 invasion. This was organised by the Peace People, INNATE and Zero 28

f) 9th August, 12.30pm – 2pm, 61st Anniversary of the Bombing of Nagasaki, Japan.
JNTC rally outside Belfast City Hall. One minutes silence at 1pm for those who died in this bombing. Letter handed into Belfast Lord Mayor calling for abolition of nuclear weapons. Group joined by Mayors from Down and Newtownabbey. Letter sent to Mayors throughout the North requesting them to join the Mayors for Peace worldwide campaign

g) Sept 11th anniversary of terrorist attack on the United States
